9/7/10- Pioneers, Oh Pioneers!

So first twenty four hours in Dublin.  Getting off the plane the first thing I noticed was not the greenery (Ireland does not have the world market cornered on trees and shrubbery), but the architecture.  Outside the city the houses are very earthy colors with uniform chimneys, very warm and comforting.   The city itself is a chaotic mishmash of storefronts and restaurants. Combined with the weather, it reminds me of some parts of San Francisco.  The weather itself is mild (50-60 throughout the day) with the sky always a palette of white, grey, and blue; never uniform.  Met a guy named Joe to rent a room; nice place: small, but ruthlessly efficient, ie my ideal.  Three more viewings scheduled for tomorrow.  First meal was a sandwich and salad with a glass of Guiness (which tasted delicious as always, but not much different from our own).  The people seem nice and always willing to help, but they freak out whenever we make eye contact and I smile.  Southern charm has its limitations.   Also the PDA here is out of control.  While I have no problem with it some occasional PDA, I can’t go more than a block without seeing two people canoodling in a doorway.  Ended the night walking through Temple Bar.  The somewhat touristy area is littered with pubs, restaurants, and street performers.  Tomorrow morning I will explore more of the city.
